Today we got ourselves an update for our latest project. Let's talk about M16 (M16A1) A service rifle which has been a standard weapon of the US Army for over 50 years!

The M16 was first introduced by U.S. Army during Vietnam War, officially adopted it in 1969 as it's standard service rifle replacing the heavy and outdated M14 battle rifle, which later that been used as marksman rifle. The M16 offering a higher magazine capacity and lighter weight compare to it's predecessor, making it a better fit for a jungle warfare conditions such as in Vietnam. The M16 was oone of the first rifle to extensively use new and synthetic materials in it's contructions, and also the one of the first guns to be made mostly from aluminium to futher reduce weight. While the US aggressor like North Vietnamese Army (NVA) adopted the AK-47 that being more tough and durable, the M16 was more precise and lighter that resulting small recoil, making both of the compatible guns sparked many debates about which was the superior weapon.

The M16 fires a standard issue 5.56mm cartridge which is lighter and smaller than 7.62x51mm and 7.62x39mm Soviet that being used either M14 and AK-47. The small caliber 5.56mm making the M16 became more lethal and accurate at the longer range. Utilizing gas-operated direct impingement "Internal piston" to make the gas port redirect back into receiver as firing operating mechanism.

Beside the US Army, the M16 also adopted by British SAS as a standard issue rifle as Model 602 on jungle patrols alongside with L1A1 SLR and CAR-15 during Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation in Borneo in 1963. Finally the M16 make himself as the most reputable weapon in 20th century due to futuristic design, making the M16 left an indelible mark on modern military history.
